Golden Richards is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on December 31, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. From the beginning, he was the fastest athlete in the BYU team. He also wore the number 22 to honor Bob Hayes. In his sophomore year He led the team in receptions with 36 totalling 513 yards (fifth in the WAC receivers) WAC players) and one touchdown. As an undergraduate, he also was the top receiver on the team with 14 receptions, 287 yards and one touchdown. He also recorded 33 punt return returns for 624 yards (17.9 average) and four touchdowns. 23 kickoff returns totaling the total of 468 yards (19.8 average). He was the top player nationally in punt returns, and the 16th most all-purpose yards. He recorded four NCAA records for the highest number of kickoff return yards (219 in a game against North Texas St.) during a game, the most return kickoffs (247 yards seven returns) during a game and average return per kickoff (35.3 yards) during the season and set the record for the most touchdowns (4) on punt return during a single season. He earned All-WAC distinctions.
The year 1978 was the most successful for Richards. Richards recorded a record-breaking 27 receptions for his team, the Chicago Bears. In the following season, he appeared in just five games prior to suffering an injury to his knee while blocking Walter Payton’s 65-yard touchdown catch in the game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although Richards was able to play the game. The contract was not renewed following being placed as an injured reserve.
On May 8, 1980, he signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos. He retired after suffering a second straight season-ending injury and being placed on the injured reserve list.
In 2011, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, with doctors believing it being a combination of the hits from football and his drug usage being causes. He lives with his two sons, Goldie and Jordan.
