Gomes made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League in 2009. He was promoted to the Auburn Doubledays of the Class A-Short Season New York–Pennsylvania League that season. In 2010, he played for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Class A Midwest League and Dunedin Blue Jays of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League.
